 Computing Facilities

All classrooms at Suneden have internet-ready computers available for student use. The children have access to a wide variety of online programmes and educational resources, some of which have been specifically written for children with special needs.  Some of the computers have been adapted to make them easier for our students to use by having additional touch screens, switch adapted mice or large keyboards.

Various technologies such as voice-to-text or text-to-voice technology is being incorporated into the curriculum where possible.

Gymnasium and Fitness Gym

Suneden has two fitness facilities:

  • a large general purpose gymnasium with a variety of small equipment including physio balls, swings, climbing apparatus and mini trampolines

  • a specialist fitness gym with a treadmill, exercise bikes and rowing machines.

Individual programmes in fitness are overseen by our Occupational Therapist and where appropriate, by agency physiotherapists.  Staff and parents are able to access the fitness gym facility after hours.

Sensory Room

In 1998 Suneden was the successful recipient of a commonwealth grant, part of which was used to build a Sensory Room. This is a room that offers great versatility. It can be tailored to be visually stimulating for our more dependent students, or for our very active students the mood can be changed to offer a calming and relaxing experience. Programmes to help the children achieve calm alertness are designed and overseen by our on-staff Occupational Therapist. The sensory room also provides an excellent teaching resource, with different projection wheels promoting colour, number or literacy awareness.

Art Facilities

Suneden has a large art room that allows classes to be involved in various art projects. For many years the students have been actively involved with making silk products including scarves, cards and bookmarks – all quality products that are for sale either direct from school or at various outlets in Adelaide.
